An exceptional 14-year-old girl named Mongiwa Ntuli has gained acceptance to the University of Pretoria in South Africa after achieving 7 distinctions in matric at Kenilworth High School.
Mongiwa gained admission to study Actuarial Science at the University achieved it at the young age of 14 making her one of the youngest students ever accepted to the institution.
According to Women Power Africa, she started primary school at the age of 4 and when she got to Grade 3, her teacher suggested that she should promoted to Grade 5 because of her exceptional intelligence.
After attending a few classes, the teacher recommended that she skip Grade 6 and go to Grade 7, but her guardians were against her promotion to upper grades. They decided to allow her follow the sequence of grades.

Mongiwa moved through the Grades with exceptional records and aced her final exams in high school with 7 distinctions. Depsite having such exceptional academic record, Mongiwa was turned down by bursaries that could sponsor her university education because of her age.
However, when she had a conversation with Prof. Tawana Kupe, the former Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University of Pretoria, she ensured that she got the funding. With the bursaries, she enrolled in the University to study Actuarial Science.
The young genius stated that initially, she wanted to study medicine, but everything changed when she read up about actuarial science and realized that this profession is about problem-solving which defines her personality.
“At first, I wanted to study medicine, but everything changed when I read up about actuarial science and realized that this profession is about problem-solving, which defines me,” Mongiwa said.
“Actuarial science is about collecting complicated data and giving it out in its simplest forms; it is about maths, and I enjoy maths because it is precise and perfect. This course combines my love for maths, statistics, and finance. If I can combine all of that and get one profession, why not actuarial science?” she added.
Upon her enrollment, Mongiwa was awarded the Vice Chancellor’s Merit Award and received a Top Achiever Award. She was also awarded a Momentum Metropolitan bursary as a Top Actuarial Science student for maintaining an average of 70%.
Mongiwa describes herself as a laid-back person adding that she enjoys watching cartoons, reading books, and cracking jokes, and nothing like the genius that many consider her to be.
“I see myself as a problem-solver, and the type of person who thinks and does things differently from others,” she said.
She stated on her LinkedIn that she is enthusiastic about saving the Earth and finding innovative ways to do so. Mongiwa added that she loves giving back to the community which helps raise her with morals and ethics.
Mongiwa mentioned that she aspires to be a businesswoman and also to make history as one of the Black Female Actuary in the world. She said she hopes to obtain her qualification early and eventually study towards a PhD
