A 17-year-old boy named Barrington Lincoln whose mother did the extra job to pay his school fees made his mother proud as he earned acceptance to Morehouse College in the United States.
Lincoln, a native of Missouri graduated from Lutheran High School North in Missouri, United States where he held the position of class president while in the school. He was accepted into Morehouse College in Atlanta, United States, to pursue his undergraduate studies.
He told ABC News that he had thought about how he was going to surprise his mother and aunt with the news before he received the acceptance letter adding that the college was his dream school.
Lincoln stated that once he received the acceptance letter, he purchased two school T-shirts from Morehouse’s online store, and on Christmas Day, he gifted his mother erLisa McDonald and his aunt Shirley Gray the T-shirts with the school’s name on it.

He stated that when the two sisters opened the gifts, they had no idea what they meant and were confused until he told them that it meant that the college had accepted him.
Lincoln said his mother collapsed on the couch in delight while his aunt said: “You’ve been holding out on us?” and they could not all contain their excitement. Lincoln’s mother, Lisa stated that she did not see the achievement coming but she was glad to see her son get the reward for his studying hard.
“I didn’t expect anything like that. It’s so gratifying to see him get the return on his studying,” Lisa said.
Lisa mentioned that her son has sacrificed time with friends and family to achieve his goal of being accepted to his dream college. “He always wanted to lead and be the first in line and help everybody stay in line,” she said.
Lisa stated that the achievement was delightful since she had to work an extra job to afford his private school after his father, a former Marine, passed away in 2015 when Lincoln was only 15. “All kids need to have quality education. I am putting an investment in his future,” she said.
Lincoln’s father passed away after being diagnosed with leukemia. Lincoln generously donated his bone marrow for a transplant, but unfortunately, his father wasn’t able to overcome the illness.
Lincoln said that his goal is to reach back into the community and show the younger generation that they can be successful without relying on the talents of playing any sports.
“My goal is to reach back into the community and show the younger generation that they can be successful without relying on the talents of playing anything ending in the suffix ‘-ball,” he said.
He stated that he wanted to go on to attend a world-renowned four-year university and after that, he will proceed with his studies and graduate from a top-10 business school in the country.
“I will fulfill my destiny to ultimately become the commissioner of the National Basketball Association,” Lincoln said.
