Copeland’s mother, Taneka Copeland, said she did not know what to say when she found out about her son’s latest achievement of being a Gates Scholarship recipient but she was proud of him because he worked hard to earn it.

“A part of me was shocked, but I was not too surprised as I know Treyvious’s hard work and determination has paid off plenty of times before. I couldn’t be prouder of all of his awards, scholarships, and everything in between,” Taneka said.

She added that her pride for achievements goes a long way, as he has also earned awards and scholarships such as the Sunshine State Scholar Scholarship by the Florida Department of Education as well as Gadsden County’s Volunteer of the Year award.
