AFRICA | A brilliant Nigerian lady named Ominini Felix has graduated with a First-Class Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree, earning an outstanding 4.79 cumulative grade point average(CGPA)out of 5.0 from Afe Babalola University (ABUAD), Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria.
Her exceptional academic performance did not go unnoticed. Ominini was honoured with the Aare Afe Babalola Founder’s Award for Academic Excellence, a prestigious recognition she won five consecutive times, placing her among the top-performing law graduates of her set.
Ominini's Story and How She Did It
Ominini’s journey began in 2021, when she gained admission into ABUAD at just 15 years old. From her very first semester, she demonstrated academic discipline and consistency, finishing her 100-level first semester with a 4.5 GPA.
Rather than celebrate, she challenged herself to do better, a mindset that defined her university years. Through five demanding years of legal training, she maintained excellence, navigating rigorous coursework, countless late-night study sessions, and moments of self-doubt.
Her resilience paid off when she graduated at just 19 years old, ranking in the top 10 out of 252 law students. Sharing her achievement on LinkedIn, Ominini reflected on how far she had come:

“They say a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Five years ago, a 15-year-old girl took that step, walking into her first law lecture unsure of what to expect, but ready to give her all,” she wrote.
Beyond academics, Ominini distinguished herself through leadership, research, and professional development.
She served as Editor-in-Chief of the ABUAD Law Review, Director of Law, ABUAD Green Club, and an active member of several student and professional organisations.
Ominini also earned professional certification as an Associate Member of the Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators (NICArb) and published her first independent research article on Artificial Intelligence and Copyright Law in the Lawrit Journal of Law.
Acknowledging the support system behind her success, she wrote: “Truly, who am I without God? The One who carried me through every year and held my hand through it all.”
She also expressed gratitude to her family, friends, and lecturers, describing them as integral parts of her journey.
Adding a personal milestone to her academic triumph, Ominini revealed that she celebrated her 20th birthday on the same day as her convocation, calling it “a perfect close to one chapter and the beginning of another.”
