AFRICA | An exceptional Nigerian woman named Akintelu Elizabeth Abiola has made history as the youngest medical doctor ever to be inducted into the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
Becoming a medical doctor is one of the most challenging academic and professional paths, requiring years of intense study, training, and dedication. Yet, Elizabeth achieved this milestone at an age when most of her peers were still in university.
Elizabeth began her secondary school education at Federal Government Girls’ College, Akure Nigeria. However, she later moved to Sudan, where she completed her high school education at Unity High School, Khartoum.
After graduating from high school, she enrolled at Ahfad University for Women, where she pursued a medical degree. In 2016, at just 21 years old, she successfully completed her studies.

When asked how she managed to achieve this historic feat at such a young age, Elizabeth admitted that even she did not see it coming.
She attributed her success to starting school early and skipping a grade, which helped fast-track her academic progress.
However, her journey was not without challenges. While studying in Sudan Elizabeth faced challenges such as language barriers, cultural differences, and extreme weather conditions. Despite these obstacles, she remained focused on her goal.
On November 8, 2016, the same year she graduated, Elizabeth took the Hippocratic Oath and was officially inducted into the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
According to Jamb.com, Elizabeth’s record as Nigeria’s youngest medical doctor has remained unbroken since 2016 when she made it.
