22-year-old American Lady beats competitors to win UK scholarship, earns masters degree with distinctions

A 22-year-old American lady named Ashlee  Burnett has beaten 58,000 contestants worldwide to win the Chevening Scholarship which enabled her to earn a master’s degree with distinctions at the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom.

Ashlee from Trinidad and Tobago in South America was awarded the prestigious Chevening scholarship to study for her master’s at the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom.

She was part of the 2% of selected applicants out of the 58,000 applications to be awarded the scholarship. Ashlee shared her achievement on Linkedin stating that it is a reminder that the challenges in one’s journey can not stop them from where they are bound to go.

Through the scholarship, Ahslee earned a master’s degree in Education (Policy and International Development) at the  University of Bristol in the United Kingdom. She bagged the master’s degree with distinction.

Ashley who obtained her bachelor’s degree in English at the University of Southern Carribean in 2021 mentioned on her LinkedIn that getting into the University of Bristol was a dream come true for her.

While at the university, Ashlee also won the Bristol Plus Award. The Bristol Plus Award is offered by the university’s Careers Service to recognize the commitment to volunteering and creating sustainable futures while being able to manage a full course load for your program.

”One of my biggest takeaways from completing the Bristol Plus Award back in March was the course from FutureLearn. I focused mine on #SustainableFutures which was an excellent complement to my current work on gender transformative education,” she said.


She expressed her gratitude to the Chevening Awards, University of Bristo’s School of Education for the opportunity. Ashley also thanked her supervisor noting that she is the best supervisor every student should have.

Ashley said she is dedicated to making the world a better place, one step at a time. She noted on Linkedin that one of her goals is to advance gender-transformative education in Trinidad and Tobago and the wider Caribbean.
