A 23-year-old Nigerian Tricycle rider named Awwalu Salisu has been rewarded with 250 million Naira and a university scholarship up to PhD level for returning a large amount of money that was misplaced.
Awwalu, from Kano Nigeria, returned a cash of 15 million naira left in his tricycle by a Chadian businessman in 2023. His honest action impressed many people and he was honored by the Leadership Media group.
He received the award for ‘Outstanding Young Person of the Year 2023’ at the media group’s annual conference and awards ceremony. A fellow awardee, Peter Obi who is also a presidential candidate and was honored by the group, was also impressed by Awwalu’s honesty.
Peter offered Awwalu a scholarship at Baze University, Abuja Nigeria from his undergraduate up to his doctorate level. The Niger State governor, Mohammed Umar Bago who was also an awardee at the conference also decided to honor Awwalu

The governor awarded a 250 million naira worth of scholarship to Awwalu stating that the award is to appreciate his act of honesty and also to encourage other young Nigerians to imbibe the virtue.
He stated that Awwalu will get a 50 million naira scholarship each from him, the Nigeria President, Bola Tinubu, his Ministers, and also from the APC Governors Forum and Niger State government.
The governor mentioned that he will also name one of the road projects he was undertaking in Niger State after Awwalu as a reminder of his honest action.
In a similar story, a young woman named Mary Ngozi Kekwaru has been rewarded with 2 million Naira and a master’s scholarship for returning a large amount of money that was misplaced.
Mary Kekwaku is an employee at Eko Hotels in Lagos who found 70,000 dollars that a customer had misplaced at the hotel. Her honest action impressed many witnesses, and the incident was shared online. Read More about Mary HERE.
