24-year-old Princess Owoh sets record in the UK, becomes first-ever Nigerian female to graduate from the UK’s Military Academy

24-year-old, Princess Owoh has made history as the first-ever Nigerian female officer to graduate from the United Kingdom Royal Military Academy.

Princess, a cadet officer officially became the first-ever Nigerian female officer to graduate from the United Kingdom’s Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS). She was one of the 135 Officer Cadets to graduate during RMAS’ Sovereign’s Parade in London.

The parade marked the completion of 44 weeks of intensive training for the Officer Cadets of Commissioning Course 232. At the ceremony, His Majesty King Charles, represented by the head of the French Army, and Chief of the Army Staff supervised the parade.

Speaking on her achievements, Princess stated that the achievement is a testament to the support of her family, mentors, instructors, and countless individuals who believed in her every step of the way.

”“It is a profound honour to be the first Nigerian female officer to commission from the esteemed Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. This achievement is not mine alone, but a testament to the unwavering support of my family, mentors, instructors, and countless individuals who believed in me every step of the way,” she said.

Princess has consistently excelled in her military career since her time in Nigeria. She enrolled in the prestigious Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in 2018.

During her second year at the NDA, she was appointed a Cadet Lance Corporal; a Cadet Sergeant in her fourth year, and in her fifth year she was appointed to the role of Company Senior.


She held the appointment alongside two other female counterparts and they made history as the first females to assume the position of CSUO in the academy. In her fourth year, she completed the Academics Wing of the commissioning course and bagged a degree in Biological Sciences with first-class honors.

Princess expressed her dedication to continuing to uphold a positive image for Nigeria and to further make her country proud of her accomplishments. ”As I look ahead to the future, I am committed to representing Nigeria with pride, and to making a positive difference in the world,” she said.


In another story, an exceptional woman named Professor Folasade Ogunsola has emerged as the first-ever female Vice-Chancellor in the entire 60 years of the University of Lagos, South-West, Nigeria.

Professor Folasade Ogunsola, 64, is a Professor of Microbiology who specializes in the study of disease control, particularly HIV/AIDS. She was appointed on the 7th of October, 2022 to replace Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe whose tenure ends on the 11th of November, 2022. Read more about Professor Folasade HERE.
