Norah said her achievement as one of Britain’s oldest graduates is more remarkable because she left school with no qualifications in 1954.

“At school we had 60 to 70 pupils in the class as many schools had been bombed so we didn’t learn much. Completing a masters degree in an industry I’ve been so passionate about my whole life has been on my bucket list for a very long time,” she said.

Norah was the eldest in her university class with 50 50-year gap. She stated that even though she could not meet most of the students because of the pandemic, she still bonded with them especially during audition.

“However, I did still form a bond with the students, and they often asked me about audition advice,” she said. Norah said the challenge she faced was using a computer as all the lectures were via Zoom and had to ask an ex-dance student to help her use the internet to research and for grammar.

Even with her age, Norah is still teaching kids at Liverpool Theatre School, where she was principal for over five decades. “Teaching young performers has always been a huge part of my career. I still love every minute of it, I’ll never retire,” she said.

”The energy at Liverpool Theatre School is what keeps me alive and there’s no better feeling than watching talented students blossom into magnificent performers. I’ll always be a teacher, although I’m thrilled to have had the opportunity to finally make the time to do something for myself,” she added.

Norah said she hopes her story will help to inspire others, whatever their age, to set themselves a goal and achieve something remarkable just like how she keeps taking on new challenges.

”“Graduating with a Masters qualification in Musical Theatre and Drama has been an incredible journey and it just goes to show that you’re never too old to add a new string to your bow, even at the age of 83,” she said.
