AFRICA | A brilliant African Lady emerges university’s best graduating student with 3.94/4.00CGPA in Biochemistry, celebrates success
A brilliant Ghanaian lady, Darlington Ekua Acquah, has emerged as the best graduating student of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), Ghana.
She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology with an impressive cumulative grade point average of 3.94 out of 4.00, becoming the overall best student and valedictorian of UHAS’s 9th Congregation in 2024.
The official UHAS Facebook page celebrated her success, highlighting her extraordinary academic journey and dedication to excellence. Ekua maintained her position as the top student in her class for two consecutive years, setting a high standard of achievement among her peers.

As a student, Ekua demonstrated exceptional academic and extracurricular accomplishments.
She participated in the prestigious International Genetic Evolution Machine (iGEM) and International Directed Evolution competitions, where her teams won gold medals for creating innovative synthetic biology solutions to address environmental challenges.
In addition, she represented UHAS at the 14th Summer Research Programme at the University of Tsukuba in 2024, gaining international exposure in her field.
Despite her rigorous academic schedule, Ekua also completed an 8-week Virtual Assistant course with ALX Africa, showcasing her ability to balance academic excellence with professional development.
Ekua’s journey was not without challenges. She was a recipient of the Dora Gertrude Quaye Memorial Fund for Brilliant but Needy Female Students, sponsored by Professor Margaret Gyapong, who supported her during the final two years of her studies.
Ekua is passionate about science and its role in uncovering the natural world’s mysteries. She believes that “science reveals the true nature of God, and it is the glory of man to uncover His hidden mysteries.”
With this philosophy, she envisions a future where her expertise in biochemistry and molecular biology contributes to advancements in healthcare, particularly in genomics and biotechnology.
She also hopes to inspire the next generation of scientists to pursue their dreams and push the boundaries of discovery.
