AFRICA | A brilliant African man named Ebenezer Appiah Odei has achieved a truly historic academic milestone, emerging as the Overall Best Graduating Student for the Class of 2025 at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
Ebenezer earned this record breaking achievement with a Cumulative Weighted Average (CWA) of 88.06, the second highest the university has recorded since 1972.
Ebenezer's Story and How He Did It
Ebenezer’s journey began in 2022, and from the moment he stepped into KNUST as an Actuarial Science student, his academic excellence stood out. But no one imagined he would one day secure a place in the university’s history books.
In a celebratory post on Facebook, the university revealed the full weight of his scholarly achievement: Ebenezer recorded an extraordinary 56 A’s out of 57 courses, including: 28 A’s in the range of 90–100, 20 A’s in the range of 80–89 and 8 A’s in the range of 70–79.
This scores means that 85.7% of all his grades at KNUST fell within the 80–100 range — a demonstration of rare consistency, discipline, and intellectual mastery.
Because of his outstanding results, he was also crowned the Overall Best 4th-Year Student at the 2025 Vice Chancellor’s Student Excellence Awards.
Ebenerzer’s achieement is not just academic success; it is a scholarly achievement in its purest form.
Actuarial Science is one of the most mathematically rigorous programs in the world, requiring deep analytical ability, advanced statistics, probability modelling, and financial risk analysis.
Ebenezer not only excelled, he dominated. Sharing his achievement on LinkedIn, Ebenezer said his accomplishment is not ordinary but a meaningful one.“Being recognized at this stage of my academic journey is truly humbling and deeply meaningful,” he said.
”To my friends, family, and especially my coursemates who showed up to support me at the ceremony, your presence meant a great deal… This recognition is not just a personal milestone but a testament to the power of faith, hard work, and a strong support system,” he added.
Looking ahead, Ebenezer hopes to continue graduate research, using data, statistics, and financial modelling to solve real-world financial problems.
