After suffering 3 rejections, Young lady finally wins UK Chevening scholarship to study for her masters

A young lady named Rita Okolo who suffered several rejections in an attempt to continue her education in the United Kingdom has finally won the prestigious Chevening scholarship to study for her master’s in the United Kingdom.

Rita Okolom who encountered several rejections in an attempt to continue her studies on scholarship after she bagged her bachelor’s degree earned a fully funded United Kingdom Chevening scholarship to study.

Anita shared her achievements on LinkedIn sharing that she started applying for scholarships immediately after her National Youth Service because of her financial struggles.

She mentioned that she is an orphan and her education was sponsored to the tertiary level by her extended family. Filled with the desire to pursue a postgraduate degree, scholarship was the only option available for her to fulfill the dream.

Rita stated that she started applying for scholarships in 2019 and was rejected several but she continued despite all the rejections. She also added that amidst the many rejections, there were also some partial scholarship offers totaling over 100,000 dollars but she did not take the because she wanted a fully funded scholarship.

With a mind of faith, Rita did not give up on her application but rather persisted and on her fourth attempt, she was awarded a full scholarship by the Chevening awards to study for her masters in Human Rights Law at the Oueen Mary University, London.

The Chevening Scholarships is a fully funded scholarship that enables outstanding emerging leaders from all over the world to pursue one-year master’s degrees in the United Kingdom.

She noted that she is part of the  44 scholars from Nigerians chosen for the 2023/2024 Cohort.

Rita mentioned that the journey has not been without struggles but it has been rewarding at the same time. She stated that she has learned that rejection only means pushing harder, and has also been able to rediscover her purpose.

She earned her bachelor’s degree at the University of Lagos with a second-class upper after which she proceeded to the Nigerian Law School where she graduated as a barrister and solicitor of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

She expressed her gratitude to the Chevening Awards and the Queen Mary University of London for giving her the opportunity to achieve her long-desired dream. Rita also thanked scholars and persons whose resources and help made her journey smoother.

Rita said cannot wait to do greater exploits in Women’s rights advocacy with her passion for human rights through the global platform.
