After suffering rejections, 21-year-old homeless boy finally wins scholarship from UK Law school

21-year-old, Renell Harding who suffered rejection and homelessness has persevered to finally win a scholarship to a Law School in the United Kingdom.

Rennell, a native of Brent became homeless at the age of 13 because of his family situation. He grew up in up in an abusive environment and lived in a very distressing home accorning to London news.

“My first childhood memories were my dad abusing my mum- it was rarely peaceful at home,” he said. He went throuh all of the challenges while being diagnosed with autism at a very young age.

He stated that he kept his homelessnesss and challenges from his teacher and peers at his high school. Rennell pushed through and was able to earn admisssion into Swanseas University.

 “I could not tell anyone about it, I could not tell any school friends about it. It was so stressful we had to keep moving,” he said.

He mentioned that despite the challenges, he made sure not to allow it hinder his academic progression. Renell graduated with a Second class upper degree in History from Swansea university while completing competitive law internships during  his holidays.

With hard-work, determination, and focus, Renell was able to turn his life around, He mentioned that after his bachelors degree, he remained determined to pursue a career in law.



Renell stated that he applied for different scholarships and harship funds but he was rejected by all. Not giving up on his dream, he took to crowdfunding online and raised £11,175 in just 28 days to try and cover the tuition fee.

However, he fell short of the target by £7,000 and was ready to give up on the course when he received a phone call from the University of Law who had seen his CrowdFunder and wanted to offer him a partial scholarship.

 “A woman rang me and said members of the student finance team had come across his fundraising page and loved it ,they were willing to offer me a scholarship. I was really happy because I gave it my all and I felt very grateful for it,” he said.

Renell was awarded the scholarship to study for a Graduate Diploma in Law at the Unicersity of Law, England in the United Kingdom. 

“I did not think any of this would happen when I was homeless. During that time I realised I have to give my education my all if I wanted to make something of myself,” he said.
