American music icon, 50 Cent awards $48,000 full scholarship to a young girl who was unable to pay her school fees

American music icon, 50 Cent has awarded a 48,000 dollars full scholarship to a young student who was unable to pay her school fees at Kashmere High School to attend university.

Curtis James Jackson III, known professionally as 50 Cent, is an American rapper, actor, television producer, and businessman. Aside from being a music personality, 50 Cent is also a philanthropist who has helped in sponsoring youth in sports and education.

He relocated to Houston, Texas recently and decided to donate to the growth of the community. 50 cent donated $300,000 to the Houston Independent School District, which is to be used for the G-Star Program Business Lab for underperforming schools.

The G-Star Program is installed to provide paid internships and other business opportunities to the students in Houston. The schools who are beneficiary of the programs are: Wheatley High School, Worthing High School and Kashmere High School in Houston, United States.

A student from Kashmere High School, Kennedy Nelms was a beneficiary of the program. Kennedy won a full scholarship worth of 48,000 dollars to study at the University of Texas, Austin in the United States.

“My G Stars are no joke, Kennedy from Kashmere HS was just awarded a four-year scholarship to the University of Texas!,” 50 Cent wrote on Instagram. “I’m So proud of these kids. H TOWN you know the vibes she gonna get to the bread,” he added.

Kennedy is one of the  75 students from three Houston ISD schools in the G-Star Program. The students participated in a 12-week program to receive a Master of Business Administration level curriculum integrating 50 Cent’s book “Hustle Harder, Hustle Smarter.”


“These opportunities are huge opportunities that I didn’t have. Being able to provide that in the early stages, I think changes the direction and the choices that they will make. It prevents them from making some of the mistakes that I made,” 50 Cent said in an interview with Forward Times.

Kennedy says she has plans to launch a clothing line for those who do not follow fashion norms. She also plans to share with others what she has learned along her entrepreneurial journey.

“I am looking forward to being able to learn, I want to be able to learn all of the things that they are trying to teach us,” she said.
