AFRICA | A brilliant African woman named Bagele Moalosi has been awarded the prestigious Chevening Scholarship to pursue a Master’s in Applied Positive Psychology (MAPP) at the University of East London, United Kingdom.
Bagele higher academic journey began in 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Botswana and she graduated in 2007. Though she initially aspired to continue her studies in Clinical or Counselling Psychology, life took her in different directions.
Over 17 years, she gained extensive experience in various roles, at times considering further studies in Public Health or Health Psychology. At one point, she even abandoned the idea of returning to school altogether.
In 2023, she felt a renewed calling to pursue postgraduate studies. During her research, she discovered the field of Positive Psychology Coaching and found that it closely aligned with her passion for workplace well-being and personal development.

This realization reignited her academic ambitions, but financial constraints made funding her studies a challenge.
Determined to make her dream a reality, she applied for the Chevening Scholarship, a highly competitive program funded by the UK Government’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).
The scholarship seeks individuals with strong leadership and influencing skills, committed to studying in the UK and returning to their home countries to drive meaningful change.
To strengthen her application, Bagele focused on a critical issue in Botswana: workplace well-being. She highlighted the growing mental health challenges employees face due to changing work cultures, job demands, and stigma surrounding mental health support.
”Many employees struggle in silence, while most workplaces lack dedicated resources for psychological well-being,” she said.
Drawing from her experience as an Employee Wellness Specialist, she emphasized how the MAPP program would equip her with the expertise to develop holistic well-being initiatives and create mentally healthy workplaces.
Bagele’s vision is to design wellness programs that go beyond traditional approaches, fostering resilience, engagement, and a thriving work culture.
Celebrating her achievement on LinkedIn, Bagele described this opportunity as a dream come true. She expressed gratitude for the chance to explore the science of well-being and human flourishing at one of the leading institutions in the field.
She looks forward to learning, networking, and bringing back valuable insights that will enable her to positively impact her community.
She also thanked the Chevening Awards, the British High Commission, her family, friends, and mentors who supported her throughout the journey.
As she embarks on this new chapter, Bagele is eager to embrace fresh beginnings, deepen her expertise, and contribute to a brighter future for workplace well-being in Botswana.
