AMERICA | A brilliant young boy named Jayrah Bostic has emerged as the valedictorian of the High School for Health Professions(HSHP) Class of 2025 in the United States after graduating with an outstanding 5.08 Grade Point Average (GPA).
Jayrah’s outstanding performance earned him the 2025 Clyburn Scholarship at South Carolina State University (SC State) under the Dr. Emily England Clyburn Honors College. He was one of the only nine students awarded the scholarship.
Aside from his diploma from HSHP, he also completed the Certificate of General Studies Curriculum at Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College through the Early College Program, graduating with both high school and college credits.
Jayrah's Story and How He Did It
Jayrah’s passion for science and sustainable energy started in high school. Through the South Carolina Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics’ Accelerate Virtual Engineering Program, he explored various engineering fields and discovered a strong interest in nuclear energy.
Under the mentorship of Dr. Danjaji, Chair of SC State’s Department of Engineering, Jayrah refined his vision of becoming a nuclear engineer dedicated to advancing clean and sustainable energy solutions.
He hopes to combine his technical expertise with mentorship to inspire future STEM scholars.

Beyond academics, Jayrah was a proud member of the National Honor Society and the Boy Scouts of America’s Pack 190, Troop 190, where he honed leadership, teamwork, and service skills that shaped his character.
His achievements also earned him several other prestigious scholarships, including the Palmetto Fellows Scholarship, the Rudolph Canzater Scholarship, the SC State University National Alumni Association Greater Orangeburg Chapter Scholarship, and the Freshman Presidential Scholarship
He has also received multiple honors, such as the Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College Honor Roll, Governor’s School Certificate of Achievement, and College and Career Ready Seals of Distinction.
Jayrah is set to begin his next academic chapter at South Carolina State University, where he will pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Nuclear Engineering as a proud member of the American Nuclear Society.
For Jayrah, this new phase represents more than academic success; it is a continuation of a lifelong dream to contribute to sustainable energy solutions while giving back to his community.
“The Honors College is more than just academics; it’s where scholars become not just successful professionals, but upstanding citizens,” Jayrah shared.
He hopes to someday stand among the great leaders who have come through the Clyburn Honors College, inspiring others to follow the same path of excellence, service, and innovation.
