AMERICA | A 17-year-old boy named Tyler Moore from Fayetteville, North Carolina, has made history by becoming one of the youngest Black pilots in the United States and the youngest in Cumberland County to earn his private pilot’s license.
Tyler achieved this milestone through Cape Fear Aviation Flight Training in Gray’s Creek, where he trained for ten months and completed solo flights eight times during his preparation.
Being a straight-A student and basketball star at Northwood Academy, Tyler balanced his academic and athletic commitments with his intense training for aviation.
After reaching the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) minimum age requirement of 17, Tyler passed his flight test with an FAA Pilot Examiner, demonstrating basic maneuvers, landings, and emergency procedures.

Tyler’s passion for aviation began at just two years old, watching aircraft from Pope Army Airfield where his father, an Army veteran, flew. Last year, he asked his parents to support his goal of flight training, setting aside time on the basketball court for runway lessons.
After high school, he plans to attend the Air Force Academy and eventually serve in the Air Force and also become a commercial airline pilot. Advising others with the same dream as him, Tyler said, “Anybody can be a pilot if you work hard.”
In a similar story, 17 year old Gabriel Carothers has made history as the youngest black pilot in the United States Of America.
Gabriel Carothers is a student from Albuquerque in New Mexico, who recently just completed his his private pilot check ride making him the youngest black to ever ride a plane on his own.
Hesaid flying a plane has been his favorite hobby since he was a child. When he was 8 years old, he was given the opportunity to take on the controls of an airplane in flight for the first time during an ‘Experimental Aircraft Association Young Eagles’ event at the Moriarty Airport in New Mexico which fueled his passion more.
