A brilliant African lady, Serwah Yaa Ofosu, has graduated with a first-class degree in Civil Engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi.
Sharing her journey on LinkedIn, Serwah described her four years at the university as a season of hard work, sacrifice, and growth. Through all the highs and lows, she remained determined and focused, and now, she celebrates not just the degree but everything the journey taught her.
Serwah’s time at KNUST was marked by several academic and personal milestones. She consistently pushed herself to achieve excellence, earning recognition on the Provost’s List of Excellent Students.
She was also named the Best Student in Geotechnical Engineering for her work on a final-year design project and was honored with the title of Female Personality of the Year by the Civil Engineering Students’ Association, a recognition that meant a lot to her.

Beyond academics, she was involved in activities that helped shape her leadership and communication skills.
From serving as Vice President of the National Society of Black Engineers at KNUST to leading marketing efforts for TEDxKNUST and playing a vital role in the Civil Engineering Students’ Association, she embraced every opportunity to grow and give back.
She also volunteered as Ashanti Regional Coordinator for MISE Ghana and was an active member of the Kumasi WikiHub, dedicating time to promoting STEM education and open-source knowledge.
In her role as a Microsoft Learn Student Ambassador, she hosted technical sessions and led conversations that empowered other students in tech and engineering.
Serwah also ensured that her learning was not limited to theory. She took part in several internships to gain practical experience and deepen her understanding of engineering concepts.
She admitted that balancing academics with all these responsibilities was not easy, but she was determined to make it work.
Looking back, Serwah sees her first-class degree not just as a result of academic excellence but as a symbol of every moment of growth, resilience, and purpose.
She is proud of the woman she has become, one who is passionate about sustainable engineering and ready to explore data-driven solutions to help improve the built environment.
Serwaa said none of it would have been possible without the support of her lecturers, friends, and especially her family, whose unwavering love carried her through. As she steps into a new phase, she is filled with gratitude and excitement for the journey ahead.
