AFRICA | A brilliant Nigerian man, Abdulwahab Ridwan, has achieved remarkable academic success at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) after scoring an outstanding 4.90/5.00 CGPA in Mathematics.
His amazing performance ranked him as the second overall best-graduating student of the 2024 university set. Being the second-best out of thousands of students in the university is an exceptional achievement.
Sharing his success in LinkedIn, Abdulwahab stated that his academic journey at FUTA began with a clear goal: to achieve a First-Class degree and become the best version of himself, a goal he finally achieved.
“With God’s blessings, hard work, and determination, I successfully achieved these goals. Collaborating with fellow scholars, sharing knowledge, and learning from others played a pivotal role in my success,” he said.

Beyond graduating as the second-best student overall, Abdulwahab received several prestigious awards, including the best graduate in the Department of Mathematical Sciences and School of Physical Sciences.
He was also awarded the Dean’s Prize for the final-year student with the most consistent presence on the Dean’s List, Prof. Reuben Olafenwa Ayeni Prize for the best graduating student in the Department of Mathematical Sciences and School of Physical Science.
Also the Oladejo Charles Owolabi Prize for the Best Graduating Student in the School of Physical Sciences.
In a recent interview, Abdulwahab attributed his success to dedication, strategic preparation, and strong family support. He highlighted the principle of “P5: Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance,” as a guiding force throughout his academic journey.
He also recalled a memorable experience during his 200-level studies when he scored a perfect 30/30 in his first three written courses, a feat that made his lecturers seek him out during the exams.
Abdulwahab expressed deep gratitude for the scholarships and support he received from various organizations, including the HillCity Foundation, Aliu Abubakar Foundation, Petroleum Development Trust Fund (PTDF), and Senator Abiola Ajimobi Foundation.
He acknowledged how these opportunities significantly eased his academic journey. Abdulwahab also appreciated his lecturers for their invaluable mentorship and guidance.
Looking ahead, Abdulwahab is excited about the prospect of furthering his studies with a focus on mathematical modeling and optimization.
