A brilliant Nigerian woman who goes by the name Chioma Onwuchekwa has bagged her Doctorate Degree in the United States after studying for 11 straight years across Africa, Europe and America.
Chioma who celebrated her academic success through her Linkedin started her educational journey at Covenant Univerity, South-West Nigeria, where she bagged a Bachelor’s Degree with First Class honours in Industrial Chemistry.
After her Bachelor’s Degree program, she proceeded to the Glasgow Caledonian University, Glasgow, Scotland to complete her Master’s Degree in Energy & Environmental Management. Upon the completion of her Master’s Degree in Scotland, Chioma moved to the United States to enrol for her PhD Degree.
After 11 years of moving across three different countries, she was finally awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Degree in Environmental Sciences by the Tennessee Technological University, Tennessee, United States.
“11 years of higher Ed schooling, 3 degeees and 3 continents. 2011- BSc Industrial Chemistry. 2014-MSc Energy & Environmental Mgt. 2022-PhD Environmental Sciences-Chemistry,” she wrote on Linkedin.
Narrating her journey, Chioma noted that she had several tough times during her studies. “I started my PhD Fall 2017 and graduated 6th May, 2022. Boy oh boy, did life throw curve balls,” she said.
“It surely was neither an easy nor a linear journey and things hardly went as planned. If I had a penny for every time I thought of quitting, I just may be able to retire now, haha,” Chioma added.

“I PhinisheD, made great friends now turned family and connections along the way, interned with a great company, picked up diverse skill set and had an amazing support system,” she said.
