AFRICA | A brilliant Nigerian Lady named Chidiebere Anastacia Ezeh, has been awarded the prestigious Commonwealth Scholarship to further her studies in the United Kingdom.
Prior to being awarded the scholarship, Chidiebere had an exceptional academic performance having graduated with a first-class degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).
With a strong passion for advancing her studies, she immediately started applying for graduate programs abroad after graduation. Sharing her journey on LinkedIn, Chidieber said she started her scholarship applications in 2022, believing that her outstanding academic record would guarantee immediate acceptance.
However, she quickly realized that the process was more competitive and demanding than she had anticipated. She thereafter dedicated time to refining her application documents, including her academic CV, transcripts, and statement of purpose.

After thorough preparation, she officially began submitting applications in 2023. Despite facing numerous rejections, sleepless nights, and the challenges of sending cold emails, Chidiebere remained resilient and proactive.
She was later nominated and awarded the fully funded Commonwealth Scholarship—a prestigious award given to exceptional individuals with the potential to drive global change.
“After over a year of countless applications, sleepless nights, cold emails and rejection emails, I am excited to share this good news; I am now a #Commonwealth Scholar,” she said.
Chidiebere’s nomination for the Commonwealth Scholarship was submitted by the Forum for African Women Educationalists, Nigeria (FAWE) Chapter to pursue a Master’s degree in Sustainable Civil and Structural Engineering at the University of Liverpool.
According to her, her research focus aligns with one of the six themes of the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the UK.
She plans to focus on integrating sustainability principles into the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry through the use of sustainable materials and environmentally friendly practices.
Passionate about creating a lasting impact, she looks forward to gaining the knowledge and skills needed to drive sustainability in civil engineering.
Reflecting on her journey, Chidiebere acknowledged that the application process was overwhelming. However, it taught her grit, perseverance, and the importance of taking bold steps toward ambitious goals.
Beyond academics, she emphasized the importance of giving back to society, stating that the journey has made her more intentional about volunteering and making a positive impact wherever she goes.
She expressed her deep gratitude to everyone who supported her through this process and encouraged aspiring scholars to remain resilient and proactive in their application journey.
”To everyone who is currently making any application, I encourage you to remain resilient throughout the process. All you need is “One YES” and as long as you don’t give up, it is bound to come,” she said.
