How Deborah Dada won UK Commonwealth Scholarship with first-class degree in Law

A brilliant Nigerian lady named Deborah Dada has been awarded the prestigious Commonwealth Scholarship Commission Scholarship to pursue a Master of Laws (LLM) at the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom.

Her journey to this milestone is a story of sustained academic excellence, discipline, and purpose.

Deborah's Story and How She Did It

In 2019, Deborah earned a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) with First Class Honors from Obafemi Awolowo University.

Her outstanding performance distinguished her in a competitive class of 419 students, where she emerged as second Best Graduating Student overall and Best Female Graduating Student.

She also received the Phoebe Chiabikobi Ajayi-Obe Prize for Best Female Graduating Student and Professor B.O. Iluyomade Prize for Best Student in Administrative Law.

Her undergraduate success firmly established her as one of the brightest legal minds of her cohort.

Following her LLB, Deborah proceeded to the Nigerian Law School, where she continued her tradition of excellence.

She graduated with a Second Class Upper Division and finished among the top 10% of her class. She was subsequently called to the Bar as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

After Law School, she further strengthened her expertise in legal research, legal drafting, and legal writing

Driven by her core values of Integrity and Excellence, Deborah consistently applied herself fully to every responsibility entrusted to her. In 2025, Deborah achieved a major international milestone, earning the highly competitive Commonwealth Scholarship.

Out of approximately 45,000 applicants worldwide, only about 600 scholars were selected. Reflecting on the achievement, she described the moment as surreal and expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity.

The scholarship, funded by the UK government through the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, enables her to pursue an LLM in Law, Innovation and Technology at the University of Bristol — one of the UK’s top-ranked universities.

Now in the United Kingdom, Deborah describes her time at Bristol as deeply enriching. Her studies focus on the intersection of Technology and Law, covering areas such as artificial Intelligence, intellectual Property, data Protection, blockchain, and paperless Trade.

She has gained critical insight into how emerging technologies are reshaping global legal systems and modern legal practice.

Deborah credits her journey to faith, family support, mentorship, and the encouragement of friends and referees who supported her scholarship application.

She expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission, Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office,  University of Bristol,  family, and close supporters
