Despite being in science class in high school, young Nigerian Lady bags Marketing degree with 4.51 first-class

A brilliant Nigerian lady named Emmanuel Omowunmi has bagged a marketing degree with first-class honors at Ladoke Akintola University, Nigeria despite not having prior knowledge of the course from high school.

Omowunmi’s remarkable performance earned her the award of the best graduating student of Ladoke Akintola University, Nigeria. She shared that her initial aspiration was to be a Nurse but things took a different path.

She said she applied to study Nursing but was offered Marketing despite not having any prior background in accounting from secondary school. ”’It all started when I was offered admission to Ladoke Akintola University of Technology to study Marketing when I applied to study Nursing,” Omowunmi said.

”Meanwhile, I passed above the JAMB cutoff mark to study Nursing, and besides I did not have any commercial background in my secondary school and O’level results,” she added.

Omowuni stated that she accepted the admission and resumed with hopes of crossing out from Marketing to Nursing by making sure she ended her first year with a good grade point.

Unfortunately, after meeting the grade point requirement to switch to Nursing, Omowunmi learned that the department was not accepting students from other departments.

Instead of giving up, she decided to switch to Food Engineering because she also loves calculations very much.

However, she was not allowed to transfer to the Food Engineering Department because the Marketing Department wanted to retain her due to her high performance as one of their best students.

Meanwhile, Omowunmi has already begun to develop a love for Marketing courses. She said she developed a passion for the course because she realized there were many new things I could learn, despite being a science student.

Omowunmi mentioned that Marketing involves tasks such as brainstorming, critical thinking, data analysis, feasibility studies, and strategic planning, all of which are practical skills that she was ready to explore.

She said she consistently maintained a second upper division in their studies however, she was motivated to aim for a first-class grade because there was only one other student in their class who had achieved that level.

Omowunmi said to achieve this, she dedicated more time to studying, ensuring she read for at least 8 hours a day when not preparing for exams, and during exam periods, she read continuously. Despite her efforts, she did not achieve a first-class grade.

She mentioned that in the first semester of her final year, she gave up on earning a first-class but she scored a perfect grade point of 5.0 in the second semester which motivated her to work harder.

Omowunmi’s hard work paid and she graduated with a First Class grade and was even the best student in her department.

She stated that though the academic journey was challenging she developed a passion for the course despite not having a background in marketing-related courses and was still able to graduate excellently.

Encouraging other scholars, Omowunmi urges them to be resilient, focused, determined, passionate, and interested in their studies to achieve their goals. She emphasizes that this mindset can lead to success not only academically but also in other areas.

Omowunmi said she portrayed it as she has her brand of beauty and cosmetic business named RIA POSTICHE N BEAUTY despite being an excellent student academically.
