A determined Nigerian woman named Omolara Obabire Ogunbiyi has inspired many after overcoming early motherhood challenges to earn multiple degrees, including a PhD, while building a successful family and professional life.
Her journey is one of resilience, discipline, and unwavering commitment to purpose. Omolara’s story proves that motherhood does not end a woman’s dreams.
Dr. Omolara's Story and How She Did It
Her inspiring story was shared by her daughter, Ifedayo Bode Salisu, who praised her mother for refusing to allow circumstances to define her future.
According to her daughter, Omolara gave birth to her at a very young age after high school, but remained focused on her education and long-term goals.
When her child turned one, her parents took over the care of the baby so she could return to school and continue her studies. She gained admission into a College of Education, where she studied diligently while still pursuing bigger dreams.
Omolara repeatedly wrote university entrance examinations until she eventually secured admission into the University of Ilorin.

Though she studied during the era of prolonged ASUU strikes, which extended her academic journey, she refused to quit.
She eventually graduated with excellent results. After graduation, she completed her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and reunited with her family.
She began working, raised more children, and continued excelling professionally. But Omolara did not stop there.
While her youngest child was still a toddler, Omolara won the highly competitive Chevening Scholarship and travelled to the United Kingdom for postgraduate studies. Despite being a wife and mother, she embraced the opportunity with the support of her husband.
After one year abroad, she returned home, having earned her master’s degree with distinction. Not satisfied yet, she pursued another Master’s degree in a field she deeply loved, travelling repeatedly between Abuja and Ilorin for lectures and commitments.
A year after, she completed her master’s degree at the University of Abuja with distinctions. Later, she began a PhD programme, balancing doctoral studies with a full-time job, family responsibilities, and leadership commitments.
She successfully completed her thesis and earned the doctoral degree with honors.
More than academic titles, Ifedayo described her mother as aproud mother of four grown children, grandmother of three granddaughters, Choir leader, Deaconess, Marriage counselor, Bible teacher, leader and a woman of influence.
Her daughter described her as a force of nature, praising her dedication despite the odds. She also thanked her father for giving her the chance to pursue her dream. “This is not just about a title. This is about a life that refused to be ordinary,” Ifedayo said.
