An exceptional 11-year-old Nigerian boy named Joshua Fred has been awarded ₦450,000 cash prize for coding a calculator.
Joshua Fred was presented with the Lagos government Boy Child Initiative award for coding a calculator. He won the junior boy category of the award and was given a cash prize of N450,000 by the Lagos State First Lady.
The Boy Child initiative was launched by Lagos State First Lady, Claudina Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu to encourage parents to train their male children to become responsible members of society.
Joshua’s Mother, Ngozi Emereole Fred shared her son’s achievement on her Facebook page stating that he has made her proud with his passion and talent.

”Congratulations to my boy Josh. Champion Junior category of First lady of Lagos state talent hunt. No be everyday we get opportunity to go to state House. I remember how this journey started. Thank God today, your passion has made you a champion. So proud of you my boy,” she said.
Ngozi expresses her gratitude to her son’s primary school, JoJo Kiddies Smile School, and the secondary school, Mater dei Height College who helped him develop the passion. She also thanked everyone who supported him through the journey saying the award is a rare opportunity.
”Congratulations JoJo kiddies smile school satellite town Lagos where the foundation was laid and nurtured. congratulations Mater dei height college for building on this foundation. Thanks to his uncle Ikenna my brother, Mr Malik and Mr Bassey for all your support throughout this journey. This is one of those once in a life time opportunities,” she said

In another story, a 17-year-old Nigerian girl named Mmesoma Okonkwo has been awarded the British Council Outstanding Cambridge Learner’s Award in honor of her emerging as the overall best student in the World Cambridge examinations.
