A 13-year-old Nigerian boy named Joshua Agboola has made history as the youngest software developer in Africa after being certified as an Amazon Web Services(AWS) developer.
Joshua Agboola is a young Nigerian programmer who has been coding since he was 6 years old. He recently became a certified Amazon Web Services developer associate in Africa.
Joshua achieved the feat after he passed the tough two-hour examination that tested his skills and knowledge in deploying, troubleshooting, and developing on the Amazon Web Services cloud platform.
Cloud services are infrastructure, platforms, or software that are hosted by third-party providers and made available to users through the Internet.
Joshua said he was inspired to achieve the feat because of his outstanding performance in his AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner examination which he wrote earlier in the year. He also added that his father encouraged him to sit for the examination so as to acquire the next level of certification.
He further said that though he had developed an interest in DevOps, the popular progression was to go for the Solutions Architect Associate certification but was convinced by an older friend who is also a programmer, it was then he started preparations for the examination.
“I was initially preparing for the Solutions Architect Associate certification which is the next certification most people take in their AWS cloud journey, but had a change of mind for a tougher developer associate certification due to encouragement from an older friend programmer,” he said.

Joshua said he prepared for the test by studying for about two to five hours daily for some six weeks, having the mindset that passing the examination would not only make him the youngest developer in Africa but in the world at large.
Joshua shared his achievement on his LinkedIn, celebrating his record-breaking victory and encouraging others who want to venture into programming.
”I am excited to announce that yesterday, I became certified by Amazon as an AWS Certified Developer Associate, becoming the youngest AWS Developer Associate in the world at age 13,” Joshua wrote.
”After clinching the Solutions Architect Associate certification last week, I was revved up to take the Developer Associate exam, and I am grateful to God I passed with flying colors. I hope my achievement inspires others to push for their career dreams in the tech space. Go for it guys,” he added.
Joshua said he will be moving further in the cloud space as his achievement was noticed by a tech company in Lagos and has offered to provide him with additional technical mentorship.
