Exceptional Nigerian man bags Accounting degree with 4.98/5.00 first-class, wins ₦10million as LASU’s best graduating student

A brilliant Nigerian man named Olaniyi Mubarak Olawale has been awarded a cash prize of 10 million naira after his outstanding performance as the overall best-graduating student of Lagos State University(LASU), Nigeria.

Olawale obtained his bachelor’s degree in Accounting Education with a remarkable first-class honors of 4.98 over 5.00 cumulative grade points at LASU. He scored the highest grade point in the university’s  2022/2023 graduating set.

In his valedictory speech, Olawale described how he achieved the feat despite coming from a humble background and amidst the notion that education courses are for less intelligent scholars.

He mentioned that his father, a wood seller was the one who sponsored his education and his mother died when he was still very young.

“It is with great humility that I address you today as the son of a wood seller, and a late mother, who defied expectations to emerge from a faculty wrongly tagged as an asylum for students with low intellectual quotient or students gifted with courses different from their desires,” he said.

The vice chancellor of Lagos State University, Ibiyemi Olatunji Bello announced Olawale as the overall best-graduating student out of 8,670 students that were convicted for the academic session.

The Governor of Lagos, Babajide Sanwo-Olu who was in attendance at the convocation ceremony awarded Olawale with a cash prize with 10 million naira for his outstanding performance.

He shared on his Facebook that the award was to encourage Olawale to keep achieving greater heights.

“Graduating with a CGPA of 4.98 is not a small feat, so I congratulate Olaniyi. This is a moment of great joy, not just for you but for all of us. To celebrate and to honour you, I announce a token of N10 million,” he said.

Olawale thanked the governor for the cash prize adding that the governor has made a significant imact in the university.
