AMERICA | 17-year-old girl graduates US high school with honors, wins full scholarship to Texas University.
A 17-year-old girl named Aaliyah Glover graduated from Steven High school with honors and won a full ride scholarship to further her studies at Texas A&M University in the United States.
Aaliyah, Northside ISD earned her high school diploma with honors at Texas Agricultural and Mechanical University in the United States. She said the achievement is a proof that one can do anything they set their mind to no matter the challenges.
“I was more prone to be a teenage parent, a high school dropout or being incarcerated just like my father,” she said. Aaliyah’s father is serving a life prison sentence for capital murder.

“I wasn’t going to be what the statistics said I was going to be. I wanted to prove them wrong. I wanted to be someone who can motivate others that come from backgrounds just like me to do the same thing I have done,” she said.
Aaliyah credited her mother for being a source of inspiration and motivation. She mentioned how her mother overcame challenges to raise four children alone, and she would still blame her mother for their situation unaware of her mother’s sturggles.
“I always just blamed her for how my life was going or how it was at the moment. I never really saw what she was doing for my future,” she said.
Aaliyah studied hard and eventually, her hard work paid oiff. She was awarded a full ride scholarship to study for her bachelor’s degree at Texas A&M University.
Aside from her academic achievements, Aaliyah was the captain of her swim team and San Antonio’s 2019 Boys and Girls Club Youth of the Year. She said she plans to either be a neuroscientist or cardiologist but she is yet to decide what she will study in school.
Advising people in similar situations like hers, Aaliyah said they should never give up, and always believe in their abilities. She said one must seek out people who support their success.
In another story, a 16-year-old girl named Elliana Tenenbaum has bagged a Nursing degree at Arizona State University, United States, setting a record as the institution’s youngest Nursing graduate.
Elliana is a teen from California who obtained a bachelor’s degree in Nursing at Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation at Arizona State University, United States. She completed the Nursing degree in 16 months instead of the usual four years.
She was able to complete the degree within a short span through an accelerated nursing program. Elliana took college credit courses while at El Camino High School at Ventura College in California. Read more about Elliana HERE.
