How Caroline Oluwadare earned a first-class in Accounting and won PTDF scholarship abroad

A brilliant Nigerian lady named Caroline Oluwadare has achieved remarkable success, graduating with a First-Class degree in Accounting and going on to win the prestigious Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) scholarship,  a fully funded opportunity to study abroad.

Her journey is one of consistent excellence, discipline, and positioning herself for global opportunities.

Caroline's Story and How She Did It

Caroline began her academic journey at the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta (FUNAAB) in 2016, where she studied Accounting.

Throughout her undergraduate years, she maintained a strong academic record and actively participated in extracurricular activities such as debating, public speaking, politics, audit committees, and case study competitions.

In 2022, she graduated at the top of her class with a First-Class degree. Beyond academics, Caroline pursued professional excellence by writing the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) examinations.

Her persistence paid off at the final stage, where she won multiple prestigious awards, including: 2nd Overall Best Candidate (ICAN Professional Level, May 2022), Best Candidate in Advanced Audit and Assurance, Overall Best and Best Female Qualifying Candidate.

EXPLORE SCHOLARSHIPS

After completing her studies and National Youth Service, she began her professional career at PwC Nigeria, where she gained valuable corporate experience and built a strong foundation in accounting and advisory.

Although studying abroad was always a dream, it was not initially part of her immediate plan. However, with encouragement from mentors and friends, she decided to explore scholarship opportunities.

Her turning point came when she was introduced to the PTDF scholarship. After initially delaying her application, she eventually applied, with the support of mentors who helped review her statement of purpose and prepare her for the interview process.

Her effort paid off. Caroline secured a fully funded scholarship to pursue a Master’s degree in Finance at Heriot-Watt University.

Reflecting on the moment she received the scholarship, she described it as surreal, a dream she had worked towards for years finally becoming reality.

Despite the excitement, she also faced the uncertainty that comes with leaving a stable career and familiar environment for a new chapter abroad. Still, she chose growth.

Caroline expressed deep gratitude to her mentors, colleagues, and lecturers who supported her journey, especially those who provided guidance, shared opportunities, and wrote recommendations on her behalf.

She also acknowledged how her undergraduate foundation at FUNAAB played a crucial role in preparing her for global academic success.
