How Ebenezer Aborah worked as bike rider to sponsor education and went on to earn degree in the US

AFRICA | A young man named Ebenezer Aborah from Ghana has achieved tremendous success in his academics after facing tough financial challenges as a student.

Ebenezer, who has now graduated with a Masters degree from Eastern New Mexico University in the United States reflected on how he faced tough financial challenges as a student.

As a young student of the College of Health Yamfo in Ghana, Ebenezer could not afford to pay his tuition fees. He narrated that he had to take on many jobs, including being a laborer on farms, a car washer, a galamseyer (artisanal miner), a charcoal burner, and even as a tricycle rider to make money.

Ebenezer later graduated from the College in 2019 with a Bachelor’s degree in Physician Assistance.

“To finance my education, I took on various jobs that tested both my strength and determination. I worked as a laborer on farms, a car washer, a galamseyer (artisanal miner), a charcoal burner, and even as a tricycle rider, just to mention a few. Each job came with its challenges, but they taught me the value of hard work and the importance of holding onto my dreams despite the odds,” he narrated in a post on LinkedIn.

After his graduation from the College, Ebenezer forged ahead to secure admission for a Masters degree far away in the United States. He joined the Eastern New Mexico University in 2023 and by 2024, he bagged a Masters of Science in Human Biology.

On his graduation day, Ebenezer posted pictures of his old days in Ghana when he struggled to fund his education and new pictures of him holding his Masters certificate. He titled his story: “Celebrating Resilience and Triumph: My Journey to a Master of Science Degree in Biology”.

“The degree is not just a personal achievement; it is a testament to the resilience of those who dare to dream despite overwhelming challenges,” Ebenezer said. He emphasized that his journey symbolizes hope for young people who feel limited by their backgrounds.

Ebenezer expressed profound gratitude to his advisor, committee members, family, and friends who supported him throughout his journey. He acknowledged their belief in him during moments of self-doubt, saying their encouragement anchored him through the storms.

“This milestone reflects not only my struggles but also the importance of community and those who cheered me on from across the globe. This victory belongs to all of us,” he said.

Looking ahead, Ebenezer is committed to using his knowledge and experiences to give back to his community and inspire the next generation to dream bigger.

“To anyone out there facing adversity: Keep pushing. The road may be tough, but the destination is worth every step,” he stated.
