AFRICA | A brilliant African Lawyer named Ezekiel Osei has achieved another extraordinary milestone after he graduated with a Master of Laws (LLM) with First Class honours from the prestigious University of Cambridge, United Kingdom.
His journey is a powerful reminder that academic excellence is not by chance but a chain of hard work, preparation, and the right opportunities, like the Chevening Scholarship, which fully funded his postgraduate studies.
Ezekiel's Story and How She Did It
Ezekiel’s academic story began at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), where he obtained his Bachelor of Laws (LLB) with First-Class honours through the highly competitive Mastercard Foundation Scholarship.
He graduated as one of the top three students out of 200 law graduates, placing him within the top 1% of his class.
At KNUST, he distinguished himself not only through his grades, such as earning the award for Best Student in African Union Law, but also by balancing academics with intense leadership and extracurricular commitments across student politics, mentoring, advocacy, and faculty governance.

After KNUST, Ezekiel advanced to the Ghana School of Law, where every law graduate must train before joining the Bar.
He completed two years of rigorous professional legal education and was called to the Ghana Bar in 2022 as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Ghana. He then spent two years gaining hands-on legal experience, setting the foundation for his next academic step.
The leap came when Ezekiel won the prestigious Chevening Scholarship, funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office.
Winning a Chevening scholarship is a global achievement reserved for outstanding leaders, and it opened the doors for him to pursue an LLM at Cambridge. At the university, Ezekiel once again proved his brilliance.
He finished 3rd out of 195 candidates, earning multiple academic prizes, the Faculty of Law Prize for Competition Law, the Faculty of Law Prize for Corporate Insolvency Law, the Jeffrey W. Cook Prize in Law (Best Performing LLM Student, Hughes Hall), and the Johnston Prize for Postgraduate Studies
His research paper, “Africanizing for Africans? A Prognosis of the Intra-African Investment Regime and the Protection of Local Communities,” also earned an honourable First-Class score, reflecting his deep commitment to legal scholarship in Africa.
Reflecting on his achievement, Ezekiel described his graduation at Cambridge’s historic Senate House as “a lifelong dream becoming reality.”
Ezikiel credited his professors, mentors, family, friends, and especially the Chevening Awards for making his studies possible, noting that the scholarship did not just fund his education, it gave him a platform to grow intellectually and professionally.
