AFRICA | A determined young woman named Favour Idhugwe has rewritten her academic story, rising from repeating a class in secondary school to graduating as a double first-class lawyer at just 22 years old.
Her story is a powerful testament to resilience, faith, and unwavering determination.
Favour's} Story and How She Did It
Favour’s journey did not begin with academic excellence. As a secondary school student, she was neither the best nor an outstanding learner.
At one point, she was even asked to repeat a class, an experience that almost convinced her that school was not meant for her. But rather than give up, she chose to push forward. In 2018, she gained admission into Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD) to study Law, determined to turn her story around.
What followed were five years of discipline, growth, and consistency. Despite facing a grade-threatening academic year in 2020, Favour maintained excellence and, in 2023, graduated with a First Class Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree.

Reflecting on her journey on LinkedIn, she described herself as: “Once an average student who went to school because she had to, later finding purpose and achieving so many things within the four walls of the university.”
Beyond academics, Favour made her mark through leadership and creativity. During her time at ABUAD, she served as Assistant Financial Secretary, Deputy Speaker, and Chief of Staff of the Law Students’ Society and Public Relations Officer of the Students’ Representative Council.
She also built a YouTube lifestyle channel with over 5,000 subscribers and 400,000+ views, won Content Creator of the Year 2023, and hosted a YouTube masterclass with over 20 participants
Grateful for her journey, she wrote: “I am thankful for the opportunities of service. I would do it over again.”
As required for legal practice in Nigeria, Favour proceeded to the Nigerian Law School in 2024, entering what is widely known as one of the most rigorous academic environments in the country. Like many students, she initially struggled.
“I started Nigerian Law School so confused. I was lost in class, just staring at the lecturer and wondering how my colleagues knew all the answers,” she recalled.
But during externship, everything changed. She found clarity, fell deeply in love with the law, and studied with renewed passion and discipline, sometimes even forgetting to eat.
When it was time for bar finals, she feared a mistake in one paper had cost her the First Class she worked so hard for. Still, grace spoke louder than fear.
In 2025, Favour graduated from the Nigerian Law School with another First Class, officially becoming a double first-class lawyer. She ranked 31st out of 4,429 students nationwide, an extraordinary achievement by any standard.
Looking back, she described her journey as one of determination and divine guidance:
“I was once asked to repeat a class and felt school wasn’t for me. Today, I’ve left the university and the Nigerian Law School with a First Class. This is evidence that whatever you put your mind to, you can achieve,” she wrote on LinkedIn.
Throughout Law School, she continued documenting her journey on YouTube, balancing academics with content creation, proof of her ability to multitask and stay focused on her purpose.
