AFRICA | A brilliant young African lady, Favour Peters, has achieved remarkable academic success, graduating with Distinction in Population Health Sciences from the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom.
Her academic journey is a story of resilience, excellence, and purpose, made possible through the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship, which fully funded her studies.
Favour's Story and How She Did It
Favour’s academic path began at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), where she graduated in 2022 with First Class Honours in Rehabilitation Science.
Her outstanding performance earned her the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship to pursue her master’s degree at the University of Cambridge.
“My Cambridge experience has been a profoundly enriching journey and one of the most transformative seasons of my life,” Favour reflected. “Looking back now, my heart is so full.”

During her time at Cambridge, Favour distinguished herself as both a researcher and a leader. Her master’s dissertation, which earned a Distinction, focused on modelling the impact of heterogeneity in vaccine coverage on measles outbreaks across England and Wales, using a spatially explicit meta-population model framework.
Her work demonstrated deep analytical skill and a strong understanding of how data-driven research can improve public health systems globally — particularly in Africa, where vaccine coverage remains a pressing issue.
Beyond the classroom, Favour represented Cambridge and the African continent with pride.
Through the Kufuor Scholars Program, she was flown to the United States to present her research at the University of Denver, where she won First Place for Outstanding Paper Presentation at the 2025 Sustainable Development in Africa Conference.
She also published three research papers in high-impact journals such as Taylor & Francis, Wiley, and Nature, and moderated several high-level sessions at the Africa Together Conference and the Inaugural OxBridge African Scholars Summit, organized by the African Society of Cambridge University (ASCU).
Her commitment to community and mentorship was equally outstanding. Favour served as a Student Ambassador at Wolfson College, Cambridge, and hosted several graduate-application webinars for aspiring African scholars.
Through her mentorship, she helped 12 African students secure top scholarships to study in the UK. She also served as the Students’ Representative for her cohort of Population Health researchers, ensuring collaboration and inclusivity within the Cambridge community.
“This entire experience would not have been possible without the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Cambridge,” she shared. “They believed in me and invested in my vision to reshape the landscape of post-infection outcomes globally.”
Favour expressed deep gratitude to her supervisor, Dr. Andrew Conlan, and the Cambridge faculty, who guided her academic journey, and to the Mastercard community that became her second family.
“By far, the greatest gift Cambridge gave me was its remarkable community — like-hearted people who held my hand through it all,” she said.
