A determined Nigerian woman named Nafisat Balogun, has achieved a historic milestone after rising from a cabin attendant to becoming a commercial pilot licensed in the United States.
Her journey stands out not only for its career transformation but also for breaking barriers in a male-dominated field, as she became the first female pilot in the Nigerian Customs Service.
Nafisat's Story and How She Did It
Nafisat began her career in aviation as a cabin crew member before transitioning into flight training. Along the way, she pursued higher education, earning both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Ahmadu Bello University(ABU), Nigeria.
Her breakthrough came when she was sponsored by the Nigerian Customs Service to undergo professional pilot training at the Flying Academy in Miami, Florida, in the United States.
After completing her training, she obtained her pilot license and officially qualified as a commercial pilot.
Following her certification, she was celebrated by the Nigeria Customs Technical Hangar Service in recognition of her achievement. The service described her success as a historic milestone, noting that she had become the first female pilot in the organization.
Officials praised her journey as one marked by resilience, discipline, and determination, emphasizing that her story would inspire other officers, especially women, to pursue specialized careers in aviation and beyond.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Managing Director of the Customs Technical Hangar Service highlighted her progression from cabin attendant to fully licensed pilot as a symbol of growth within the service and proof that new opportunities exist for those willing to pursue them.
Now holding the rank of Superintendent of Customs, Balogun expressed gratitude for the support she received throughout her journey, acknowledging that her success was made possible through encouragement from the leadership and colleagues who believed in her potential.
