A determined young man named Oron Godswill has inspired many after working as a security guard to pay his way through school and still graduating with outstanding success.
Godswill earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication from Rivers State University with an impressive 4.25 CGPA, the highest in his class, making him the best graduating student of his department.
His journey reflects perseverance, discipline, and excellence despite serious financial challenges.
Godswill's Story and How He Did It
Godswill began his university journey in 2018 when he gained admission into Rivers State University. Like many students, he entered school with hopes of building a better future. But unlike many others, he had to fund his education largely by himself.
To survive financially and continue his studies, he took a job as a night-shift security guard at a company. While many students slept after classes, Godswill spent his nights on duty, balancing work responsibilities with academic pressure.
He revealed that during exam periods, he would study while on duty, often reading at the back of his post.
Godswill shared that there were days he had two exam papers in school and still had to report for his night shift immediately afterward. He recalled how his supervisor would sometimes scold him for focusing on books while working.

“There were days I’d have two exam papers and still go for my night shift security job. I would be at the back of the post reading, and my supervisor would come and say, ‘Oron, Oron! You are here reading? What if a thief climbs the fence?” he said.
Despite the pressure, he remained committed to both work and studies. Most of his classmates reportedly did not know he was working nights because he remained active in school and never allowed his struggles to define him.
Through consistency and determination, he maintained strong academic performance throughout his degree programme.
In 2023, Godswill graduated with first-class honours and emerged as the best graduating student in his department. His success became a symbol of what hard work and sacrifice can achieve.
Reflecting on his achievement, he expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed to his success. “I am not a self-made man. Many persons contributed to making me who I am today, and I still have a long way to go in life,” he wrote on Facebook.
Despite his academic excellence, getting a job after graduation was difficult for him. Instead of sitting idle, Godswill became a dispatch rider and turned the hustle into an opportunity by creating content around his delivery experiences.
His vlogs attracted followers from different parts of the world and made himpopular as a service provider and content creator. Looking ahead, Godswill goal is to grow his current hustle into a major national logistics company in Nigeria.
