A determined Nigerian lady named Peace Ukaoha has achieved remarkable success, overcoming years of financial hardship, delays, and setbacks to earn a bachelor’s degree from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).
Her achievement is a powerful story of resilience, perseverance, and determination. Despite facing financial challenges that repeatedly interrupted her education, Peace refused to abandon her dream of earning a university degree.
Peace's Story and How She Did It
Peace completed her secondary school education in 2011 and, like many young Nigerians, immediately set her sights on higher education. In 2012, she sat for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) with hopes of beginning her university journey.
However, life took an unexpected turn. Reflecting on that period, Peace explained that circumstances beyond her control forced her academic ambitions to be put on hold.
“I graduated secondary school in 2011 full of dreams. The following year, I wrote JAMB. It felt like the beginning until everything fell apart. That same year, life happened. Just like that, my education paused,” she shared on Instagram.
Although she gained admission and even paid her acceptance fee during one of her attempts to continue her studies, she was unable to raise the tuition fees needed to proceed.
With no financial support available, she was forced to walk away from her dream once again. Rather than giving up, Peace decided to take control of her future. She began working various jobs to support herself and save money for her education.
“No help. No support. Not even from people I believed in. I had to walk away again. That same year, I picked myself up and started working hard to raise funds for myself and see myself through school,” she said.
Determined not to let her dreams die, Peace eventually secured admission into the National Open University of Nigeria in 2019 and restarted her academic journey.
As a student, Peace balanced work and studies. Though challenging, she remained focused on her goal. “It wasn’t easy, working and schooling at the same time. Still, I kept going,” she said.
Even after completing her coursework and signing out in 2023, her journey was not yet over. She encountered delays during her project phase, extending what should have been a straightforward graduation process.
The prolonged delay tested her patience and resolve. ”Project phase almost broke me. Fear, delays, everything. It took me three good years. But the devil lied. Today, I stand victorious,” she recalled.
After years of sacrifice, determination, and perseverance, Peace finally achieved her dream and graduated with her bachelor’s degree.
Celebrating the milestone, she expressed deep gratitude to God, her late father, her husband, her mother, and everyone who supported her throughout the journey.
“This is to you God, the God of signs and wonders. When the devil said no, You said yes.” She also paid tribute to her late father, saying: “I wish you were here. I just want you to know that you have another graduate. I did it.”
Peace reserved special appreciation for her husband, whom she described as a major source of encouragement and support throughout the difficult years.
Reflecting on everything she endured, she shared a message for others facing challenges and delays in life. “This is your sign: No matter how many times life says ‘wait,’ don’t you dare quit. Your story is not over,” Peace encouraged.
