A determined young man named Prince Duah has defied the odds to pursue his dream of becoming a medical doctor, raising money by selling clothes to fund his education and eventually gaining admission to study Medicine at the University of Ghana, West Africa.
His story reflects resilience, discipline, and an unwavering commitment to education. Now he is on the track to fulfilling his goal of becoming a medical doctor while also achieving excellence.
Prince's Story and How She Did It
Prince’s journey began in Denkyira Asikumah, a small and underserved village in Ghana’s Central Region.
Raised in a farming household, he faced limited access to resources such as stable internet and academic support. His challenges deepened early in life when he lost his mother, leaving him to grow up under difficult circumstances that demanded maturity and resilience.
Despite these setbacks, he remained focused on his goal. He attended less-endowed public schools throughout his early education but stayed committed to his dream of becoming a doctor.
Through hard work and discipline, he gained admission into Ngleshie Amanfro Senior High School in Kasoa. At his high school, his academic excellence began to stand out.
Prince won six awards for best student across eight subjects during a Speech and Prize-Giving Day His performance earned him a place on his school’s team for the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), one of the most competitive academic contests in Ghana.
He recalled how preparing for the NSMQ became a defining chapter in his journey. Together with his teammates, he trained tirelessly, day and night, building not just knowledge, but teamwork and discipline.
Their efforts paid off in 2019 when they competed at the Greater Accra Regionals against top schools. Despite the intense competition, they emerged as first runners-up, a moment that strengthened his confidence and academic drive.
After completing secondary school,he faced financial challenges and it was hard for him to further on with his education.Without the means to immediately fund his university education, Prince took a bold step.
He began trading in the Kasoa market, selling clothes to raise money for his fees. It was a difficult period, but it taught him responsibility, perseverance, and the value of hard work.
That sacrifice eventually paid off. In 2021, he gained admission to study Medicine at the University of Ghana, marking a major turning point in his journey.
From a small village with limited opportunities, he had worked his way into one of the most competitive academic programs. Now, he is in his final year of medical school.
Beyond academics, Prince has also taken on leadership responsibilities. He currently serves as the President of the University of Ghana Medical Students’ Association (UGMSA), where he advocates for student welfare and contributes to health initiatives—showing growth not just as a student, but as a leader.
