An exceptional Nigerian man named, Samuel Badekale from the Universty of Lagos(UNILAG) Nigeria has earned the prestigious Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Scholarship to study across three top European universities.
Through this fully funded European Union award, Samuel will pursue a Master’s degree in Biomembranes (MemBioMed), studying at Université Côte d’Azur (France), University of Genoa (Italy), and Universität Osnabrück (Germany) over the next two years.
Samuel's Story and How He Did It
Samuel’s academic journey is a story of discipline, vision, and hardwork. In 2024, he made history at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) by graduating with a perfect 5.00 CGPA in Cell Biology and Genetics.
This achievement made him the first male student in UNILAG’s Faculty of Science to achieve this feat in the faculty’s 60-year history. His academic brilliance also earned him the title of Overall Best Graduating Student for the 2023/2024 academic session.
Reflecting on his UNILAG journey, Samuel shared that his goal from day one was to graduate with a perfect CGPA, and he achieved it through relentless hard work, faith, and focus.

”Coming into the University of Lagos as a young boy, all I had was a dream—to graduate with a perfect CGPA. Six years later, that dream has become a reality,” he shared on LinkedIn,” he said.
Building on this legacy of excellence, the year after, Samuel was awarded the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s in Biomembranes. This program merges three cutting-edge disciplines: Membrane Biology, Neuroscience, and Experimental Medicine.
Remarkably, he is the only Nigerian and West African chosen for the 2025 academic cohort of this prestigious EU-funded program.
The Erasmus Mundus Scholarship is one of the world’s most competitive awards, offering full funding for tuition, travel, insurance, and monthly stipends to outstanding students across the globe.
Reflecting on his success, Samuel looked back from whwere he started as a young boy from Mushin, Lagos, with a big dream, unsure of howw to reach it, but he was determined to achieve it.
“As I look back, I see a young boy from Mushin with a dream — a big one. He wanted to explore the world and make a positive impact. And today, by God’s faithfulness, that dream is gradually becoming a reality,” he said.
Beyond academics, he has served as an Ambassador for Education for the Ogun State Government, received multiple national and international awards, and continues to inspire young Nigerians to value education.
Advising Nigerian students also aiming for excellence, Samuel encourages them to: ”Trust God, hold your education tightly, strive for excellence, and come out with the best grades possible. Education isn’t a scam. It’s a weapon. Use it,” he concluded.
