AMERICA | A young boy named Tupac Moseley has become a symbol of resilience and academic excellence after overcoming unimaginable challenges to earn two Engineering degrees by the age of 24.
His story, which first made headlines in 2019, is a powerful reminder that light, grace, and community can rewrite the future of anyone determined to rise.
Tupac's Story and How He Did It
Tupac’s journey started with hardship. He lost his father in his second year of high school and was later evicted from his home during senior year, leaving him homeless at one of the most critical points of high school.
Yet despite everything, he maintained a remarkable 4.3 grade point average and emerged valedictorian of Raleigh Egypt High School in Tennessee, in the United States.
Additionally, over 40 U.S. universities accepted him, and he secured a massive $3 million scholarship haul, including the prestigious Gates Bridge Scholarship. This became the foundation that launched his academic career.

Life did not suddenly become easy. Tupac shared how unpredictable things became after losing his father and then losing stable housing.
Thankfully, his family found refuge through For the Kingdom, a nonprofit that supports urban youths while providing a campsite for families in crisis. Tupac never forgot how this space allowed him and his family to breathe again.
With his scholarship offers secured, Tupac enrolled for a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering at Tennessee State University. In 2023, he graduated with honors, but college came with its own storms.
He was hospitalized in 2020 after suddenly losing control of the right side of his body, leaving him unable to walk or write.
Tupac also survived two car accidents, lost both cars, and battled the emotional weight of juggling trauma with a demanding engineering curriculum. Yet he kept pushing.
According to him, three things carried him through: Light – the inner hope that things will eventually get better, Grace – the countless second and third chances offered by people who believed in his potential, and Support – from teachers, community leaders, faculty, friends, family, and everyone who reminded him that it truly takes a village
Despite everything, Tupac did not stop. The same year he completed his bachelor’s degree, he enrolled for a Master of Science in Computer & Information Systems Engineering, also at Tennessee State University.
He completed the program in 2025, right before turning 24, closing the chapter that began with homelessness and uncertainty.
In addition to the achievement, Tupac’s master’s thesis was approved and published on ProQuest, marking yet another scholarly achievement in his record-breaking journey.
Reflecting on his story in s LinkedIn post, Tupac expressed pride in his resilience and his ability to change his story.
“I’m excited to have finished this ‘Homeless Valedictorian’ chapter of my life by completing 2 Engineering degrees before my 24th Birthday. I can confidently say that I’m proud of myself,” he said.
