AFRICA | A determined young man named Kareem Ogbodo has achieved remarkable academic success after earning a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University of Ibadan despite facing extreme financial hardship, homelessness, and the daily struggle to survive.

Kareem's Story and How He Did It
Kareem’s path to obtaining a university degree was far from easy. While studying, he had to hawk the popular South-West delicacy, Amala, selling food for different vendors in order to raise money for his education.
Most of the time during this difficult period, he had no stable place to live, yet he continued to push forward with his studies. Despite the emotional and physical challenges, Kareem remained focused on his goal of earning a law degree.
Through perseverance, resilience, and faith, Kareem eventually defied the odds. He completed his law program and graduated with a Second Class Upper Division, an impressive academic achievement considering the circumstances he faced.

His final-year research project titled “The Rise of Digital Necromancy: Emerging Criminal Law Concerns” attracted attention for its originality and intellectual depth, exploring the intersection between law, technology, and emerging digital ethics.
Kareem’s inspiring journey was shared online by his colleague Olanipekun Tobi, who praised his resilience and determination.
“This story is personal to me. Kareem went through a lot while getting this degree, and with every obstacle Kareem faced, he always smiled, always showed up, and most importantly, always strived to be better. I am proud of you, Kareem. Congratulations,” Tobi shared.
Reflecting on his journey, Kareem expressed deep gratitude to God for bringing him this far. Sharing his thoughts online, he said the experience has strengthened his faith and confidence in the future.
He wrote that the rejected stone has indeed become the cornerstone, adding that his story is still unfolding and that he looks forward to a brighter future ahead.
