AFRICA | A brilliant lady named Rah-Sha Al-Hassan has achieved a significant milestone by earning a Doctor of Medicine degree from Howard University in the United States.
Her remarkable accomplishment makes her the first-ever medical doctor in her family, a feat she proudly described as her “ancestors’ wildest dream.
Sharing her achievement on X (formerly Twitter), Rah-Sha reflected on her family’s journey, highlighting the challenges and triumphs that shaped her path.
She revealed that her great-grandmother had only a third-grade education, and her grandmother tragically passed away at 39 after suffering a massive heart attack. Despite these hardships, Rah-Sha’s family continued to break barriers and redefine their legacy.

She Rah-Sha deeply admires her mother, a single parent who, despite all odds, earned both a Master’s degree and a PhD during Rah-Sha’s lifetime. Inspired by her mother’s resilience and dedication, Rah-Sha relentlessly pursued her dreams.
In addition to her medical degree, Rah-Sha holds a Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology from Hampton University and a Master’s degree in Global Health from the University of California, San Francisco.
Her academic excellence and commitment to medicine were further recognized when she secured a prestigious residency at Stanford University on Match Day—a moment she proudly celebrated.
In another story, a determined young woman named Dacorsha Sutton has defied the odds to achieve remarkable success, earning a Doctor of Pharmacy degree (PharmD) from Larkin University in Florida, United States.
Her achievement is even more significant as it makes her the first doctor in her family. Dacorsha began her higher education journey at the University of Toledo, Ohio, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree.
