AMERICA | An exceptional scholar named Saraya Ashley has graduated from Columbia University with a Master of Science in Negotiation and Conflict Resolution, focusing on Sustainability Management.
Her achievement was made possible by a fully funded scholarship she earned as part of the HBCU Fellowship program. Saraya excelled academically, graduating with a stellar 3.9/4.0 GPA, and acing her capstone presentation.
Taking to LinkedIn to celebrate her success, Saraya reflected on the trials she overcame to reach the finish line. “Through many trials set forth before the finish line, I persevered, and I am incredibly proud of myself,” she wrote.

Saraya credited her undergraduate alma mater, Fisk University, for laying a strong foundation for her academic journey. At Fisk, she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, graduating summa cum laude with General University Honors.
She distinguished herself not only through academic excellence but also through extensive extracurricular involvement.
As the Student Government Association (SGA) President, she demonstrated exemplary leadership. Her commitment extended to writing and completing two 30-page theses—one for her major and one for the Honors Program.
Saraya also interned at the University School of Nashville in Diversity and Community Life and achieved the distinction of being the second Black woman at Fisk to become a Rhodes Finalist.
Over her four years at Fisk, she actively pursued opportunities both on and off campus, setting a precedent of excellence.
Saraya’s academic journey continued at Columbia University as a member of the 6th Cohort of the HBCU Fellowship program under the School of Professional Studies. She expressed profound gratitude to the program for its unwavering support.
” I am FOREVER indebted to the Columbia University School of Professional Studies HBCU Fellowship Program for their unwavering support and commitment to my whole being, educationally, professionally, and personally,”she said.
Now, with two degrees in hand, Saraya is one step closer to achieving her dreams. “Grateful is an understatement,” she remarked, as she looks forward to leveraging her education and experiences to make an impact.
