AFRICA | A brilliant African man bags masters degree at UK university, makes grandmother proud.
A brilliant African man named Manuel Koranteng has bagged a master’s degree at the University of Sussex in the United Kingdom.
Manuel, a Ghanaian Journalist obtained his master’s degree in Journalism and Media studies at the University of Sussex, England. Sharing his achievement on Linkedin, he dedicated his success to his grandmother who raised him.
He walked across his graduation stage alongside his grandmother. Manuel shared that he was born to a teen mother who abandoned him with his grandmother because of the fear of responsibilities.

”And when I was only 6 months old, my teenage mother took me to my granny, and while I slept, she left and never returned to date. All attempts to reach her failed; no breast milk, no kangaroo mother care, no weaning – just straight to Banku,” he said.
Manuel stated that the situation made him became his grandmother’s youngest child automatically. He said he received her utmost care and support during his difficult childhood.
He expressed gratitude for his grandmother’s love and sacrifice, which enabled him to survive.
Manuel said his grandmother named him Emmanuel meaning ”God is with me” which is why when he counts his blessings, he counts her multiple times.
He said he is grateful for the gift of his grandmother because she taught him to be grateful for what they have and also to summon the courage to pursue his dreams, knowing God will fund them.
”I don’t say this with pain. I say it with gratitude to God for keeping things running smoothly and in honor of my granny for being my mother and father and everything in between. I know I won’t be here if not for her single decision to take me in,” he said.
He said as he honors his grandmother at the graduation, he wants to honor all those who have believed in him and have gone out of their way to support him in big and small ways.
Manuel said whenever his granny’s strength was not enough, and he could not do it alone, God brought one of them to fix things adding that he made it to the finish line at the University of Sussex because of them.
