AMERICA | 94-year-old man finally graduates from US university after dropping out to serve in the World War in 1939
A 94-year-old man named Anthony has finally earned his bachelors degree at West Virginia University, United States after he dropped out of the institution because he was deployed to serve in World War II in 1939.
Anthony enrolled at West Virginia University, Morgantown in the United States to study engineering, physical education, and industrial arts in 1939 but could not complete the degree.
He was close to graduation when he was drafted during World War II, serving in the Army Air Corps for three and a half years.

At the end of the war in 1946, he re-enrolled at the university in the hope of finishing his degree, but he could not finish because he had to care for his sick wife.
He went on to work as a machinist, officially retiring in 1980. However Anthony he never stopped working and stayed busy sculpting objects out of wood. He also made and sold jewelry to local shops in his hometown.
But the desire to complete his degree never left him and he reapplied to the Regents Bachelor of Arts program with encouragement from his daughter, Lisa Bridges a web developer in the school who found out students can get credit for life experience.
“I thought it would be really great at this point in his life for him to be able to get his degree,” Bridges said.
Anthony earned his Regents Bachelor of Arts degree at the university and plans to study for his master’s degree immediately. “I think it’s great. It was always important to me to graduate,” he said.
