A brilliant African man named Bismark Bimpong who sold charcoals to sponsor his education finally achieved success. He won a full scholarship to further studies at the University of Texas in the United Kingdom.
Bismark, a Ghanaian went from having no hope of furthering his studies after junior high school to becoming a Mathematician and winning a scholarship abroad.
Narrating his story in an interview with Yen Ghana, Bismark said he had a rough start to life and learned early on that success would require hard work, determination, and God’s grace. He said from junior high school, he started working to complement his parents’ effort towards his education.

Bismark stated that after every vacation in high school, he helped his mother sell doughnuts and charcoal to raise the needed capital or fees for his education and general welfare.
He mentioned that he had to delay his secondary education for months to hustle with his mother to raise funds before he eventually started school in the second term.
He said after obtaining his West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) in 2017, he had to delay his education again for a year to gather capital for his university education.
In 2018, Bismark was offered admission to the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) in Tarkwa, Ghana where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics in 2022. He proceeded to do his one-year mandatory national service.
Upon completion of his national service in 2023, tragedy struck in early 2024 when he lost his father. Bismark said the grief almost consumed him, but he found solace in his faith and kept moving forward.
He stated that he had always dreamed of studying abroad, even before finishing his degree. Despite his heartbreak, he took a chance and focused heavily on applying to international schools.
Bismark said the academic journey was filled with challenges, financial hardship, emotional stress, depression, and doubt but he clung to the words of the holy book, Isaiah 60:22.
Fortunately, his hard work and determination paid off. Bismark won a fully funded scholarship to pursue his master’s program in Applied Statistics and Data Science at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV), in the United States.
Bismark said he is grateful to his uncle for being a pillar of support to him after his fathers death. “My sincere and a heart filled with gratitude to Mr. Stephen Ntori Owusu (godfather) my father’s nephew, the man God used him to turn out the whole story after completing SHS,” he said.
”I met this man at a family funeral gathering; I never knew him before. He just saw me, had a conversation with me and the rest was history. God continue to shower His blessings on him and his family,” he added.
Talking about his experience so far since e he arrived in the United States, Bismark said the experience has been a mix of ease and challenges adding that a colleague helped him adjust, but he is still adapting to the cultural differences and unique study methods.
