AFRICA | A brilliant Nigerian lady named Angel Mba has achieved an outstanding academic milestone after emerging as the Overall Best Graduating Student of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).
She graduated with an impressive 4.94 cumulative grade point average (CGPA) in Computer and Electronics Engineering.
Angel’s Story and How She Did It
Angel’s higher academic journey began in 2019, when she enrolled at UNN to pursue her a computer and electronic engineering degree. And six years later, she earned the degree with a remarkable first class honors.
Sharing her achievement on Linkedin, Angel expressed pride in her self stating that after spending six instead of 5 years in school, totalling ten semesters, 79 courses, she graduated as not only a first-class student but also the university’s overall best graduate for the Class of 2024.
She emphasized that her achievement was made possible after countless late nights, moments of exhaustion, and doubts, and relentles pursuit of excellence.
Reflecting on her journey, Angel shared that her motivation began in her first year, when she met a student who had achieved a perfect 5.00 CGPA in their first semester adding that his words inspired her to aim higher.
She described her journey as one anchored in faith, resilience, and the support of loved ones.
“I am a testimony of God’s immense grace, resilience, and the gift of having wonderful people around me. I thank my beloved parents, siblings, relatives, and friends for their support and sacrifices,” she said.
Angel’s record of excellence was evident throughout her time at UNN. She achieved a perfect 5.00 CGPA in six out of ten semesters, demonstrating consistent brilliance and determination.
Her academic distinction earned her multiple scholarships and awards, including Nigeria Higher Education Foundation (NHEF) Scholar, UNN-USA Alumni Scholarship Recipient, and the third-place Inter-African Scholar Accelerator (ISA) SDG Challenge.
In addition, she won the Julius Berger Nigeria Scholarship for Outstanding Female Engineers, Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Scholarship, and was a Two-time Recipient of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Scholarship
She was also recognized as the Best Graduating Student in the Faculty of Engineering and the Best Graduating Student in the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering, Class of 2024.
Beyond academics, Angel distinguished herself as a leader and mentor, actively engaging in volunteering, facilitation, and mentoring programs that impacted her peers and the university community.
She expressed deep gratitude to her project supervisor, her Head of Department, and all lecturers who guided her through the demanding academic journey.
“The journey was long, but it was worth it,” she said.
