An exceptional young girl named Brittney Exline has made history by becoming the youngest African-American engineer in the United States at just 19 years old.
Her achievement is a powerful reflection of brilliance, discipline, and early dedication to excellence.
Brittney's Story and How She Did It
Brittney graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in May 2011 with a degree in Computer Science, setting a record as the university’s youngest engineering graduate and one of the youngest engineers in the country.
Her journey started long before university. At just 15 years old, she gained admission into the University of Pennsylvania, becoming one of the youngest students ever admitted into an Ivy League institution.
Even at that age, she blended in seamlessly with older classmates, choosing to focus on learning rather than the attention her age attracted.
Growing up in Colorado Springs, Brittney showed signs of exceptional intelligence early on. By age 8, she was already in sixth grade, and by 13, she had completed high school-level mathematics.

Shortly after turning 15, she graduated from high school and transitioned straight into university.
At the University of Pennsylvania, she did ot just study, she excelled. Brittney graduated cum laude with a degree in Computer Science, while also completing minors in mathematics, psychology, and classical studies.
Her academic strength was matched by her versatility, as she also developed interests in politics and global development.
Beyond the classroom, Brittney built an impressive profile. She interned as an investment analyst on the New York Stock Exchange at just 16 and later participated in the “One Laptop Per Child” initiative, traveling to Cameroon to help provide educational technology to underserved communities.
She was also deeply committed to service, mentoring fellow students and working with community education programs in Philadelphia, where she trained and supported tutors impacting local high school students.
Remarkably, Brittney is also multilingual, speaking several languages including English, Spanish, French, and others. After graduation, she began her career as a software engineer and later went on to earn a Master’s degree in Computer Science from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
Despite her extraordinary accomplishments, Brittney has remained grounded, often expressing that she simply focused on doing her best rather than chasing records.
