A brilliant Nigerian man named Dolapo Atoyebi has achieved outstanding academic success after graduating with a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from the University of Ibadan with an impressive 3.73 cumulative grade point average out of 4.00.
His remarkable performance earned him the title of Overall Best Male Graduating Student in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, along with several recognitions for academic excellence.
Dolapo's Story and How He Did It
Dolapo’s academic path was not straightforward. He began his higher education at The Polytechnic Ibadan, where he studied Science Laboratory Technology and graduated in 2018 with an Upper Credit.
After completing his studies there, he sought admission into the University of Ibadan and was admitted into a program he did not choose. Determined to continue his education, he resumed the course regardless.
When Dolapo eventually resumed at the University of Ibadan, he initially started in the Biochemistry department, since that was the course he had been offered.

However, he remained determined to pursue his passion for pharmacy. In his second year, he transferred to the Pharmacy program, though the transition was extremely challenging.
He described the experience as emotionally and academically intense.
“That transition was not easy. It felt like passing through fire. The pressure, the uncertainty, leaving my former department—it was emotionally and academically demanding. But God saw me through,” he recalls.
During the same period of transition, an unexpected moment changed his journey. A fellow student once approached him for help with difficult academic concepts.
That moment inspired Dolapo to start “The Helpers Group,” an informal tutoring initiative where he spent hours helping classmates understand complex topics.
What began as simple academic assistance grew into a meaningful mission. He and his friends regularly spent hours tutoring classmates, offering late-night explanations and voice-note tutorials, helping many students succeed academically.
“Seeing these colleagues pass, some with distinctions, gave me a deeper joy than any personal award ever could,” he said.
Dolapo’s dedication eventually paid off when he graduated with First-Class honors. Also, he was awarded the Overall Best Male Graduating Student in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 6th Overall Best Graduating Student in the entire faculty
Dolapo was also inducted into the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria. Reflecting on his graduation ceremony, Dolapo described the moment as deeply emotional and fulfilling.
“Listening to the Dean’s speech, sitting in that hall filled with the aroma of fulfillment, and watching my colleagues walk proudly to the stage, it was a moment of reflection, gratitude, and deep joy.
He expressed gratitude to God for the strength, wisdom, and grace that carried him through his academic journey.
Looking ahead, Dolapo hopes to build a career in pharmacy and pharmaceutical research, particularly in areas such as pharmaceutical biochemistry, molecular pharmacology, and pathway screening.
At the same time, he plans to continue mentoring and teaching students, helping the next generation pursue academic excellence while contributing to advancements in healthcare.
