A brilliant young woman named Loveth Onyeagubor has emerged as the overall best graduating student of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), Nigeria, after earning a remarkable cumulative grade point average of 4.94 out of 5.00.
She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Curriculum Studies and Educational Technology, finishing at the top of her department, faculty, and the entire university. Her achievement is a testament to academic excellence, resilience, discipline, and years of consistent hard work.
Loveth’s success is particularly inspiring because her journey to the top was not without challenges.
Loveth's Story and How She Did It
After completing her secondary school education in 2017, financial difficulties prevented her from immediately pursuing her dream of a university education. While many of her peers moved on to higher institutions, she was forced to put her academic ambitions on hold.
Rather than allow her circumstances to determine her future, Loveth chose to keep hope alive.
For several years, she worked as a salesgirl while patiently waiting for an opportunity to continue her education. Even during those difficult years, she never abandoned her dream of attending university and building a successful academic career.
Her perseverance eventually paid off in 2020 when she gained admission into the University of Port Harcourt to study Curriculum Studies and Educational Technology.
From the moment she resumed her studies, Loveth was determined to make the most of the opportunity she had waited years to receive.
Throughout her undergraduate journey, she consistently distinguished herself academically. She maintained outstanding grades semester after semester while balancing the financial demands of university life.
To support herself, she conducted tutorials for fellow students, taught part-time, and operated a perfume business on campus. Despite the demands of combining academics with entrepreneurship, she remained focused on her goals and refused to compromise on excellence.
Over the next four years, her commitment to learning, discipline, and hard work continued to produce remarkable results.
By the time she approached graduation, it had become clear that her years of sacrifice were yielding extraordinary rewards. In 2024, Loveth graduated with an exceptional CGPA of 4.94/5.00, emerging as the overall best graduating student of the University of Port Harcourt.
Her outstanding performance also earned her the honour of delivering the valedictory speech on behalf of her graduating class, making her the Valedictorian of the university’s graduating cohort.
Reflecting on the achievement, Loveth revealed in a Facebook post that when she was officially notified of her selection as Valedictorian, her thoughts immediately went beyond the recognition itself.
Instead, she reflected on the sacrifices, setbacks, challenges, victories, and countless individuals whose support made the achievement possible. She said the honour represented much more than academic excellence.
“It is a reminder that resilience matters, consistency matters, and that even the longest journeys are completed one step at a time,” she said.
As part of the university’s graduation activities, Loveth participated in several memorable events, including a tree-planting ceremony, a special dinner hosted by the Vice-Chancellor, and the opportunity to stand before university management, distinguished guests, family members, friends, and fellow graduates to deliver her valedictory address.
She described those moments as privileges she would cherish for years to come.
While celebrating her success, Loveth expressed gratitude to God, whom she credited for sustaining her throughout the journey. She also thanked her family for their sacrifices, prayers, encouragement, and unwavering belief in her abilities.
She acknowledged the role played by her lecturers, mentors, colleagues, and friends, noting that every lesson, opportunity, and word of encouragement contributed to her success.
Looking back, she emphasized that excellence is never achieved in isolation and that every milestone is built upon the support, goodwill, and contributions of others.
As she closes one chapter and begins another, Loveth remains committed to excellence, service, leadership, and lifelong learning.
