AFRICA | A brilliant Nigerian lady named Nkemakonam Favour Enebeli, has emerged as the Best Graduating Student in the Faculty of Law at the University of Benin (UNIBEN) with an outstanding 4.97 cumulative grade point average, earning a First Class degree.
Favour's Story and How She Did It
Nkemakonam’s journey to this achievement began long before her Law degree. In 2013, she enrolled at UNIBEN for a Bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies, graduating in 2017 with a Second Class Upper. Yet the desire to study Law never left her.
Determined to fulfill that dream, she returned to UNIBEN in 2021 and began her LLB journey, a journey she would later describe as one shaped by perseverance, self-belief, and divine alignment.
Her guiding mantra came from The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho: “When you want something, the whole universe conspires to help you.”She held onto this quote through every challenge and milestone.
EXPLORE SCHOLARSHIPS
At first, her goal was not to graduate with a First Class. She simply wanted to do well academically and make herself proud. But after receiving excellent results in 200 and 300 level, she realized she had a real chance at excellence, and she pushed harder.
Her 400-level year tested that dream. Imposter syndrome, personal losses, and academic pressure nearly made her let go of the First Class ambition. But she found strength in a strong support system of friends, family, and lecturers who encouraged her to keep going.
Her hard work paid off. She achieved the best 400-level result in the 2022/2023 session, and ultimately graduated in 2025 as the Second Best Graduating Student in the entire faculty with a stellar 4.97 CGPA.
Beyond academics, Favour balanced a demanding workload with leadership roles and extracurricular commitments. She served as the Managing Partner of Justice Chamber, Chairperson of FIDA-Associates UNIBEN Chapter, Class Representative, and even sat as an ad-hoc judge in multiple moot court competitions.
She achieved all this while making history as the first Direct Entry student and first Class Representative to graduate with a First Class — a feat many considered almost impossible.
In her reflections, she expressed gratitude to her family, friends, and the Faculty of Law staff, whom she described as “the best lecturers in Nigeria.”
Favour also shared her passion for Energy Law (Oil & Gas), Public International Law, and Family Law, and her excitement for the opportunities ahead.
